(Chicago, IL) — In every single ICE field off in the country, immigrant communities are filing Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests demanding details regarding the planning and execution of enforcement activities as well as the procedures for targeting and capturing individuals agents encounter.

Since the election and under the direction of Tom Homan at ICE and Jeff Sessions at the Department of Justice, President Trump’s deportation force has become unchained and acting with impunity. With rumors circulating of massive raids planned by the agency, advocates plan to monitor the agency’s activity and force its corruption into public view.

In Chicago, the case of Wilmer Catalan-Ramirez, for example, has exposed ICE’s reliance on racial profiling at the hands of Chicago police who wrongfully added Mr. Catalan-Ramirez to a gang database resulting in his being targeted for deportation after he was racially profiled.

Tania Unzueta, Legal and Policy Director for Mijente, explains, “Under Trump and Homan, ICE has been acting with impunity. As they prepare to raid our communities, we’re preparing to force its corruption into public view and to protect and defend our loved ones.”

More information on national efforts will be made available on a press telebriefing on Tuesday, September 12th at 1:00pm Eastern. Dial: 877-876-9174, Conference ID: “Mega”
